Fresh Breath Biscuits: For That “Minty Fresh” Puppy Smile!

With these Fresh Breath Biscuits, you’re giving your pooch the gift of minty-fresh smiles and happy tummies

Now here’s a biscuit recipe that’s not just delicious, but will have your pup’s breath smelling good enough to bottle! Yep, we’re diving into one of life’s ultimate mysteries – how to keep a dog’s breath fresher than whatever mysterious “delicacy” they last licked off the pavement! These breath-freshening biscuits are packed with parsley (the secret ingredient!) and are easy to whip up at home. The only downside? Cats will judge us for “smelling like a garden”, but who cares? Let’s get baking!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups high-protein whole wheat flour

  • 1 1/2 cups brown rice flour

  • 1/2 cup ground flax seeds

  • 3 large eggs

  • 1/2 cup sunflower or olive oil

  • 1/4 cup water

  • Optional: 4 drops food-grade eucalyptus oil (or 1/4 cup chopped basil if you can’t find it)

  • 7 sprigs fresh parsley, finely chopped (important!!!)

Us dogs appreciate the fresh, minty life as much as you do

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven & prep your sheets
Set your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. The magic starts here!

  2. Whisk the dry ingredients
In one bowl, mix together the wheat flour, brown rice flour, and ground flax seeds. These goodies add texture and keep those biscuits packed with nutrients.

  3. Mix the wet ingredients
In a separate, larger bowl, whisk together the eggs, oil, water, eucalyptus oil (or basil), and chopped parsley. This is where the breath-freshening power comes in!

  4. Combine & knead
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in batches, stirring with a wooden spoon or using a dough hook if you’ve got a mixer. Keep mixing until a dough ball forms and starts pulling away from the sides of the bowl.

  5. Roll & shape
Lightly flour your work surface, then roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thick. Grab a fun cookie cutter (bone-shaped, anyone?) and cut the dough into shapes. Place them on the baking sheets, about 1/3-inch apart – don’t worry, they won’t spread out much!

  6. Bake
Bake the treats for 20 minutes until they’re golden brown. Remove from the oven and transfer to wire cooling racks.

  7. Second Bake (optional, for crunch)
If your dog prefers extra crunchy, simply return the racks of treats to the oven on the lowest setting (180-200°F / 80-95°C). Let them bake for an hour, then turn off the oven and leave them in there to cool for another hour or overnight.

  8. Cool & Store
Once completely cool, store your breath-freshening wonders in a jar or lidded container for up to two months. For longer storage, pop them in the freezer for up to three months.

  9. If your dog prefers their biscuits softer, skip the second baking step, and keep them refrigerated for up to two weeks (or freeze for up to three months).

Eucalyptus Oil Tips: If you can’t find food-grade eucalyptus oil, no worries! Substitute with 1/4 cup of chopped basil. If using eucalyptus oil, make sure to use no more than 4 drops – too much can be harmful!

With these Fresh Breath Biscuits, you’re giving your little buddy the gift of minty-fresh smiles and happy tummies. So grab your apron, ignore the cat’s snooty look, and get ready to make treats that’ll have us wagging our tails in gratitude. Your pup’s breath will be so fresh, they might even sneak a few extra kisses!
