Should you have a graduation ceremony for your pooch after completing puppy school?

Education is the key to unlocking the world, a passport to freedom - Oprah Winfrey (clearly, she was talking about obedience school)

So, let’s tackle this question.

The idea of a canine graduation might seem as ridiculous as the idea of a cat-run service business. But let's be honest, in a world where people throw gender reveal parties for their sourdough starters, is a doggy graduation really that far-fetched?

But before you start sending out invitations, let's consider the pros and cons of this fairly new ‘tradition’:

Pros:

1. It's an excuse to dress your dog in adorable outfits. Because if there's one thing dogs love more than chasing balls, it's wearing uncomfortable clothing for your amusement (you know I’m being facetious here, right?!).

2. Great photo opportunities. Nothing says "I've got my priorities straight" like a professional photoshoot of your dog in academic regalia.

3. A chance to show off your dog's skills. Finally, an audience for that trick where they balance a treat on their nose for 0.5 seconds!

4. Bragging rights at the dog park. "Oh, your dog can fetch? That's cute. Mine has a degree in Advanced Couch Potato-ing."

Cons:

I don’t think there isn’t enough space here.

However, if you’re currently thinking: "Truffle, isn’t this all a bit... excessive?", I would like to add the following. Think of the life lessons here. Your dog has mastered the art of sit, stay, and not eating your favourite shoes (mostly). They've learned the delicate balance of looking cute while simultaneously begging for food. They've perfected the skill of taking up 90% of the bed despite only weighing 15 pounds. If that's not worthy of recognition, I don't know what is.

In the end, whether you decide to throw a full-blown graduation extravaganza or simply give your furry friend an extra treat for mastering the art of not barking at their own farts, remember this: Every day with a dog is a celebration. We don't need fancy ceremonies or diplomas to know we've graduated to the highest honour of all - being your best friend.

So go ahead, toss that cap (or frisbee) in the air. You've earned it, human. And so has your four-legged valedictorian.
